To facilitate integrated and sustainable development in rural India through self-empowerment processes.

India's population in 2009

At the end of 2009, it was estimated that:
  • 1.1 billion people were living in India
  • 750 million of them lived in rural villages
  • 360 million of the villagers were women
  • 225 million of the villagers were under 15
  • 45 million of the villagers were disabled
And India’s population is expected to continue to grow by about 20 million people per year

CORD’s community-based programs

1. Support groups for adult women
2. Education and Literacy programs to help teach villagers to read
3. Informal Legal Aid to help resolve abuse within families
4. Health and sanitation programs focused on local village issues
5. Support groups focused on the needs of adolescent young women
6. Rehabilitation programs for the disabled
7. Local natural resource management projects
8. Local self-governance projects
9. Village development groups for adult men
10. Village Enterprise projects to establish economic self-reliance
11. Micro-lending programs to help support new entrepreneurs
